Are Bull Pizzle Sticks Safe for Dogs?

Bull pizzle sticks, also known as bully sticks, are a firm favourite in the natural chew world. If you've ever wondered what they actually are and whether they're a good idea, here's the friendly explainer.

So what are they? Bull pizzles are a single ingredient, 100 percent natural chew made from dried bull muscle. No grains, no additives, no preservatives. Just one honest ingredient, which is exactly why they suit dogs with sensitive tummies so well.

Why dogs love them. They're high in protein, low in fat and very digestible. The long lasting chew helps knock back plaque and tartar, and the gnawing itself is calming, so they're great for a dog who needs to settle.

A note on calories. They are fairly calorie dense, so stick to the general rule that treats should be no more than about 10 percent of your dog's daily intake. Two or three a week is a sensible rhythm, and trim dinner slightly on chew days.

Good for puppies? Yes, usually from around 12 weeks. They're a lovely bit of teething relief. Just supervise closely and hold the stick for very young pups so they chew rather than bolt it.

The golden rule. Always supervise chew time, keep fresh water handy, and choose the right size for your dog. If they get the stick down to a small stub, swap it out. Better a slightly grumpy dog than a vet trip.

Ready to treat them? Our bull pizzle chews come in packs of sturdy sticks, ready for some serious happy gnawing.
