How to Dry a Muddy Dog After a Walk

Ah, the great British dog walk. Half the year it's glorious, and the other half your pooch comes home looking like they've been mud wrestling a bog monster. Here's how to get them clean and dry without redecorating the hallway in paw prints.

Start at the door. Keep your drying kit right by the entrance so your dog doesn't do a lap of the house first. A towel or drying mitt within arm's reach saves so much grief.

Tackle the paws first, since that's where most of the mud lives. Gently work between the toes and pads, then move up the legs and belly, which tend to be the soggiest bits after a wet walk.

Then wrap and absorb. A microfibre drying robe is brilliant here: pop it on, let it do the soaking up while your dog mooches about, and you'll skip the frantic towel wrestling entirely. Microfibre holds far more water than a normal towel, which is why it dries them so much faster.

Finally, beat the wet dog smell. That classic pong is just damp fur, so the quicker they're properly dry, the less it lingers. Get them dry promptly, keep bedding fresh, and your nose will thank you.
